Insurance?

Do you really need it or want it for those holiday items you purchase? There are pros and cons to getting the insurance or an extra service plan. For some reason and through no fault of my own, my phone lines have had some problems over the years. I have the linebacker service from my telephone company and have gotten my money’s worth. My cell phones, I have never bought nor needed the insurance. Nor have I needed it for my computer, fax machine, shredder, refrigerator, televisions or any other item that I purchased.

After a bad experience with an electronics store that was supposed to repair my stereo system, I opted never to get the additional insurance or warranty from them. It depends on the item. The more expensive an item, such as a car – new model – you might consider getting an additional warranty to take care of those things that a recall won’t.

The additional insurance that costs a fraction of the cost of a replacement also offers peace of mind to those people who have had “lemons” in the past and are sometimes “hard or rough on items.” For people who never have a problem or their items break within the regular warranty period then insurance is not worth it.

Generally, I forgo the additional warranty or insurance but when I look at an item like a Kindle, I might consider the insurance, especially on the new larger model or take my chances.

Some items you never need to purchase insurance for, if it breaks within a reasonable amount of time or after a limited use, contact the company. I got a new Cuisinart popcorn maker that way, I had only had it about a month and it konked out. No problem, the company contacted me and sent me a new one, after I had shipped the bad one back.

Don’t be penny wise and dollar foolish. Paying $5 once for insurance when you have had to replace an item or had it die when the warranty was over is well worth it.
