According to most dieticians, a serving of meat should be 4 ounces. So that means that a pound of ground beef would ideally, give you four servings or four meals. Knowing this, meal planning for a couple of meals or for an individual could be made a lot easier.

The most versatile type of meat is ground beef, I prefer the lower fat ground sirloin or ground round with the lowest fat content. Ground beef can be used for meat loaf , meat balls, spaghetti sauce, tacos, sloppy joes, tamale pie, hamburgers and more. The larger the package, the better price you may get. Can’t eat it or use it all in one recipe, then freeze it.

Consider all of the recipes that call for ground beef… In using ground beef with a lower fat content you are treating your heart with care and also can save money. Most meals that you make at home will cost less overall.

Instead of just making hamburger, make a hamburger seasoned meatloaf so on night you can have meat loaf, then the next night hamburger. Make spaghetti sauce with meat and use elbow macaroni, or shells for a slight variation on the same theme. Make chili with ground beef one night, then use it another night for chili mac or hearty nachos.

Leftovers don’t have to be boring, and the amount of time and effort it takes to prepare one meal can go a long way if you consider leftovers when you are preparing meals.
