The unseasonably cold summer that we have had in Chicago has made a difference for people who make money from concessions and other places along the lakefront or other outdoor venues. Though the cool weather has not been a great for people who enjoy summer, the same folks must also admit that the electric bills for air-conditioning usage haven’t sucker punched their wallets.

This summer, I can recall using my air conditioning fewer than a dozen times. The few times I used the AC, it didn’t make a big dent into my utility budget. The electric bill didn’t surge into the 70+ dollar range that it has done for those really hot summers when I use the AC almost 24/7. I’m not complaining, I enjoy cool weather.

The weather has been a savings on electric bills, but how many people would want to buy ice cream or do many outdoor activities in the chilly un-summer like weather? There are no figures now, but it’s almost a certainty that concessionaires who make their living off of people in warm weather took a big hit to the wallet this summer.
