A staycation may not be for everyone but even if you are traveling there are ways to save money on a trip. Some hotels and motels offer complimentary bottles of water in the room but do not mark them as such. If you are unsure ask about the price of the water.
The vending machines on your floor are very convenient but also very expensive. If you are passing a convenience store on your way, you can buy your own pop and snacks for less.
Some locations offer discounts if you print your own tickets or make reservations to attractions online. Check out some places you are definitely going to before you go and you can save money. Local travel magazines are not just for fluff articles. Look at the ads – many have coupons and discounts for meals, attractions and even a free trinket when you go on a trip. The first thing to do is to grab a local tourist magazine and look through the ads to see what coupons line up with what you want to do. Also, pay attention to the limits for the coupons. Some coupons allow you to use the deals for several people on one coupon.
In the hotel if you like coffee that’s not a real problem, but for those who like tea or even something more substantial for breakfast, you can bring your own tea or packets of instant oatmeal with you for a good start to your day.
Don’t count room service out… if you are in an area that doesn’t have a lot of restaurants or restaurants within walking distance, having a late night meal in the comfort of your own room might be the best bet. In fact some of the offerings are often comparable to the prices in the hotel restaurants and sometimes larger portions too, so you can share with your travelmates.

Enjoy the summer! Even if you don’t have an opportunity to go on a vacation, once in a while, take a sandwich or takeout to the park and eat. If you can’t do that, try eating on your back porch or balcony for a change of pace. It will make dining special, especially if you are dining with someone.
