Online shopping is expected to be at a high today since it is Cyber Monday 2008.

Just like buying gifts in a traditional store, make sure that you buy what you really need. Just because everyone else is doing something doesn’t mean that you have to. If there is an item that you really want and there is a choice between a traditional store and an online store where you don’t have to pay tax and can have it shipped for free, then go with the free shipping.

Online retailers have been slashing prices just like other retailers and have definitely made free shipping a bargaining chip. Who likes to pay for shipping when you make a purchase if you don’t have to?

Check the prices online before you go to the store. If you buy several items directly from one place like Overstock.com or Amazon.com you may qualify for free shipping rather than paying to go to several places just to save a few cents, but then still having to pay taxes. Also, the benefit of shopping online is that you will generally know if the item you are searching for is in stock. We have all been there when you are looking for a certain item for someone on your list and then you discover… that the store is out of stock.

Today I am going to just do some looking. I haven’t decided what to buy some people, so until I am ready to make some purchases, I will hold onto my money… though not too long because I still want to make sure I can take advantage of free shipping deals.

I already know that I will order some items from Amazon and am trying to figure out what I will get for other people so I can order as much as possible at one time. The only downside to ordering online is that you have to order early enough to receive standard shipping, which is fine if you live in the same house that you live in, but if you need to take the gift with you and are leaving a few days earlier, get cracking! You can have packages delivered directly to those on your list, but if you are ordering multiple items and want to wrap them, your time is shortened by a day or two.

Both internet and traditional shopping have their benefits, just make sure you know what is right for you. For me, internet shopping has been very appealing because it helps keep me on budget and I get what my recipients really want.
