Before you frown about frozen or ready to bake pizza remember you can always add some spices to your pizza to give it more zest.
I do know people who have said that they add additional things to a frozen pizza, as in additional toppings. I have never done that but a frozen or refrigerator case pizza has never gone into the oven without something added to it before baking.
My favorite additions are: granulated garlic, oregano or pizza spice and crushed red pepper (flakes). I enjoy garlic so I shake a lot of that on top of the pizza. I also shake these on pizza when I order a pizza. If I want to be fancy, after it is baked, I might shake on a little Parmesan cheese.
While these do not seem like grand additions to a pizza, just these alone will not make a silk purse from a sows ear. It is possible to tenderize a less expensive cut of meat through marinades and cooking techniques. There is less that can be done to a pizza that has too much or too little sauce for your tastes. Before adding spices or other things to a pizza, make sure that the pizza you buy is one you like or has potential. Since I like tings on the spicier, zestier side, most frozen pizzas are too bland.
Since you are in control of what you cook at your own home, you can be as creative as you like and add additional meat or other toppings to your pizza. To me, that’s too much added work. Shaking a few seasonings on a pizza is worth it though. If you are browning your own sausage to add to a pizza, then you might do better just to buy pre-made dough or a crust and start from scratch. At a certain point, adding too much to a product that is basically just cook and eat defeats the purpose of whatever savings you are trying to achieve.
