Single Purpose

Do you really need that a gadget that performs a solitary task? Could you do the task with a multi-purpose tool?
When it comes to kitchen gadgets, people are always on the lookout to make their kitchen tasks simpler, easier, faster or more convenient. While the end product is that most relish in, would it make a difference if you used that special tool to make a perfect sauce or used a fancy reamer or zester. Probably not, unless you are a real foodie. Before buying a certain specialty item for your kitchen, make sure you really know how much it will cost. Will you use it more than once or twice a year? If not, then you might not really need it.
Don’t get me wrong, the new stovetop cappuccino maker looks wonderful, but the cost of the machine, factoring in that I could make my own sporadic cappuccino at home, considering the actual number of times I would use the machine is too high. If the machine were possibly a third of the price I might buy it. Since I drink cappuccino maybe once or twice a month, if that much it really isn’t necessary and would be an expensive item to store in my kitchen.
A gadget doesn’t have to be only for the kitchen, it can be a specialty tool for a hobby that you use sporadically.
Conversely, if you are considering an additional tool that you know you really need and will use, buy a quality tool so you will the opportunity to really get the most out of it and not have to worry about replacing it too soon.
