    Junk and Frugality

    By Daphne | July 24, 2008

Look around your home. You, like most people probably have some things that could be classified as junk. Don’t worry, you are not alone.

These are not items that you collect and care about, even if you don’t have a fancy display case for them. Instead you may have some items that you “rescued” from somewhere because you thought that you would want to use them at some point in your life. Admit you didn’t use the things you saved or rescued.

Even worse, you may have bought some of the items because you thought they were a good deal or on sale and instead of saving money you bought the items because “someone could use them.”

This often happens and you waste money that way. Even if you didn’t pay for an item outright, you are wasting time and space by harboring items that you do not need. Holing onto something that you will not use isn’t thrifty or frugal, it is cheap.

Pass items on to someone else who could use them. I have left over craft materials from student projects that I know I will not use and don’t have enough of to do a large group activity but I have friends with children who could use them.

Buying or acquiring extra junk into our living spaces is what drives the desire and need in some cases for more space or storage facilities.

Consider all the time and effort that is spent trying to eliminate junk mail and email from our lives. Why can’t we use the same approach and purge ourselves of the junk that we don’t use and have to store?
