    Organization Time

    By Daphne | July 15, 2008

Now is the time to reorganize your closet. Back to College organizing supplies that will work for small spaces are on sale and available in a variety of colors and prices.

Before you make a decision about what you want, look in an organizational magazine to see what is available. Also, assess your individual needs. You may have craft supplies or out of season clothes to store. Just because an item says that it is a 10-pair shoe storage unit, doesn’t mean that you can’t store T-shirts, decorations or any other things in them.

Use your imagination when you are reorganizing. It is not easy to just jump into a project. Even if you want to do something on a larger scale later on, but the clutter is getting to you now, look for items that you can use in other areas of your home. Just because you have some items to store, you don’t have to buy a decorative cardboard box, you could use a plastic shoebox.

Bigger is not always better. In some spaces, determine if you could do better with two smaller items that you can rearrange or use in another area if you redecorate. It is easier to store several small boxes rather than one large storage container.

Check the quality of the items that you buy. If you are storing sweaters in a container, they may be lighter than storing boots and take up less space. If you are looking for items to store sporting equipment, think heavy duty.

Just because you have something that looks good and is supposedly going to make you life easier, it may not if you haven’t measured. Measure accurately. Do not approximate on the low end. Saying that the depth of your closet is about 2 feet when you are looking to place an item in it that is two and a half feet will make a difference in the closet doors closing or not. If your closet is really 2 feet exactly, then look for items that are 23 inches or so in depth so that the doors will close and give your closet a neat appearance.

As you are looking at organizing supplies for a closet, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Another good place to look at for heavy duty storage containers is a home supply store. Many of the containers are sturdier and are available in a variety of colors. Who says you can’t use a tool box to help organize small things?
