    Share at the Fair

    By Daphne | July 1, 2008

The Taste of Chicago is in full swing here in Chicago. You have to buy tickets for the food booths. Like any other festival where you are tempted to overeat what you can do is to decide what you are going to spend and stick to that amount.

Even though you get 12 tickets for $8, you still may want to buy more tickets so that you can get most things you want. Even buying 24 tickets you can still get very full.

The biggest markup on things anywhere - festivals, restaurants, ballparks, museums are beverages. Bring a bottle of water at home when you are going to a fest. Most places will allow you to bring an unopened bottle of water. Even if you buy a bottle of water, it will be less than if you bought it at an entertainment venue. Alcohol is also expensive. If you are out in the heat, you should avoid alcohol anyway.

Along with avoiding alcohol at a festival because of the big price markup, look around to see what is offered first. Just like planning your grocery shopping when you decide what you want to eat at a festival, amusement park or other place. Look around first. Some fairs may have a listing of foods available. Others, you may have to follow your nose. Don’t be disappointed, look around first.

Go with a friend. If there is something you want to eat or try, in a restaurant you can share an appetizer, then why not share finger foods?

When you share food items then you won’t spend as much, and will be less likely to overeat.

The next time you go to a restaurant or movie theatre split an appetizer or popcorn.
