Speak with your Wallet
By Daphne | May 29, 2008
Having enough money is probably more important to people than saving enough.
Since gas has doubled in price in less than two years, some people have recently started to cut back on their driving because of need. That is the need to use this commodity in a more conservative manner than before. If you had budgeted or hadn’t budgeted gas into your spending, you do now. If you were spending less than $40 to fill up your tank and now spend closer to $80 then that extra forty dollars or so makes a big difference in your wallet.
That forty dollars could be used for something frivolous like entertainment, to help decrease debt or increase wealth.
If there is less money to spend and people are using less then prices will decrease. Don’t think this is true? Consider how much film and processing costs now. The price of developing film has dropped dramatically because of demand.
Unfortunately with petroleum, we use so many things that depend on petroleum and its products. We need to make long lasting change to our habits and dependence on oil for the long term so that prices will decrease.
Twenty million barrels of oil are used each day. How much would we save by taking public transportation instead of driving or walking. Consuming less and using your spending power to make a difference. Buying products that do not have excessive packing such as individually wrapped food items such as chicken breasts or meat patties.
Speak with your wallet and the marketplace will listen. Just as more people are moving toward fuel efficient vehicles that are smaller and lighter, many people will change their habits because of the money.
