Pile on the Savings
By Daphne | May 28, 2008
Don’t be afraid of the coupon. It is an effective money saving tool.
I went to CVS yesterday to buy vitamins. I have a CVS savers card but normally don’t use it. This deal was too good to pass up. If you buy one bottle of vitamins or supplements, you would get one free. In addition to saving the cost of one entire bottle of vitamins, I also used a $2 coupon that I got from the manufacturer’s website.
If you prefer a certain brand or see that a brand is on sale, check out the manufacturer’s website to see if there are coupons available. You do have to give your email address for the coupons generally, but you could set up a free email account just for that purpose.
Also, while I was at CVS I saw dish washing detergent for less than a dollar. Even though I don’t need any, I purchased two because I will need those and they are not perishables.
Other stores require the use of a coupon, you can use a manufacturer’s coupon along with a store coupon for additional savings. If you don’t have the sales paper, check online and print the coupons.
You can get coupons for many things that you need if you do a little searching online first. Instead of going to a coupon aggregate site, you could check the sales papers first, then check the manufacturer’s site for what you specifically want, rather than having to wade through coupons that you don’t want or can’t use.
When you sign up for samples, many companies will send you a coupon that you may use for a future purchase.
Saving an extra dollar or two here and there may not make you rich, but it will help you keep costs down and allow you to buy your favorite brands.
