    Economic Control

    By Daphne | April 29, 2008

If your friend was making money in a business but other businesses around him were going under, would you want to halt your friend’s success?

What if you had several friends who were profiting while the majority of people were suffering. Profiting above and beyond a reasonable markup exceeding supply and demand is what Americans see happening with the oil companies. When prices are almost double what they were less than two years ago and in some cases almost triple what they were four years ago for gasoline it makes a difference.

The president is out of touch with reality. Not just out of touch with Americans. The oil exploration that the president wants to do nationally does not solve the problem of automobiles that could be more fuel efficient. Many of the president’s cronies make money from oil. So if your friends are making money from oil, why would you want to decrease the amount of oil that is consumed?

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said the president is out of touch with the troubles of the pains that Americans feel from the economic downturn.

“The president has lost control of the economy,” said Schumer. “He has ignored repeated shots across the bow: Record oil prices, the housing crisis … none of these things are being addressed.”

Allowing people access to loans is a noble idea in theory but if people have no idea how to save money or how to deal with debt or budgeting this will not help. When prices increase in all areas of basic needs people have to give something up. Consumer confidence is at an all time low because, even though stores are trying to lure people in, those who had a small amount of disposable income, are seeing it go directly into their gas tank or  are spending more at the grocery store for less.

If Americans are speaking to their officials that are closest to them and they try to address issues that affect their constituents financially.

The major issues Americans face are rising costs for food, fuel and utilities. Anyone who has been reading the headlines will soon realize that rising costs for food, fuel and utilities worldwide affect the financial security of citizens. Even if you cannot afford to own a house or a car, you still need to eat. Make your voice heard, contact your legislators and let them know how best to represent you. What issues are most important to you?

Writer your Senator or Representative today, even if the person is not from your party but represents you, you still have a right to  your opinion and equal representation. The only way they will know about your concerns is if you tell them.
