    Change Your Thinking

    By Daphne | April 7, 2008

If you think that you can’t save money then you won’t be able to. It sounds crazy since we are in the middle of an economic crisis to talk about what seems to be nothing more than wishful thinking, but things will get better.

People who think that money is flowing away from them and don’t believe that they will ever have any money probably won’t. Be honest with yourself. If you think that things are rough now, and for some, their situation may be rougher than others, but don’t think that things will get better then you are so pessimistic, that even when things get better you may not think they are.

Even if things are tight, make plans for your future. You may not be able to take a vacation this year because you just got a new job, or you may have credit card debt but this doesn’t mean that you will always be in that situation. Things change and be open to change.

Think of five things you want to do when you financial situation improves. Think big. If you want to pay off your mortgage sooner, or save for a bigger house or invest more money or give more away… whatever this is your list.

No matter what, even if you are thinking big, don’t let your thoughts or dreams make you spend more than you have. If you believe that you will have more income in five years than you do now, don’t spend all of your future salary in your dreams because when the time comes you may overspend and get yourself into debt.

Change your thinking and work toward making that change happen.

I totally agree that becoming more focused on future objectives helps with daily financial discipline.
