    Wasted Money

    By Daphne | January 8, 2008

Some of the tips that I see about saving money are to buy the store brand or generic version of something. Sometimes that works and other times you have wasted your money.

Yesterday I went to the grocery store and wanted some ice cream. So, I bought a brand name [Lucerne] better known for milk and cheese not ice cream. I wasted my money. Not only was my taste for ice cream not sated but I now want to throw the ice cream away because the flavor was so blah. I would have expected this from vanilla, but I had chocolate and this had no flavor whatsoever.

Even though the brand you really like is not on sale, try to use a coupon or wait until what you like is on sale and get it. If I had just paid the price for a brand I know I like I would not have wasted my money.

Store brands are not always terrible, in fact my favorite ice cream currently is a Walgreen’s brand and it features dark chocolate ice cream with cashews and caramel. I just figured I wanted to try a different type of ice cream since I was at the grocery store.

The moral of the story is to buy what you really like. To figure that out you will have to taste some yucky things and maybe waste some money but chalk it up to a learning experience. If you don’t have money to use to “experience” other things… stick with what you know and use coupons.
