    Procrastinators

    By Daphne | December 21, 2007

The last minute Christmas shoppers are supposed to make their push this weekend much to the panic of the retailers. Many stores are extending hours and making changes to try to get more people out shopping.

Has anyone even give a thought to why some people put off shopping in the first place?

The last weekend or even the day before Christmas is when some people get their bonuses. For those who wait and do not want to go into a lot of debt they wait their fortitude is admirable.

There are those who enjoy the pressure of the last days of shopping. Not me. From the looks of things not a lot of people are enjoying the last days of shopping either. Maybe they are using other forms of gift acquisition like online shopping.

The mall is not a fun place to shop anymore because you used to be able to get everything you needed or wanted under one roof. Big box stores don’t do it for me either, since I am not willing to compromise on how much I want to spend large department stores don’t work for everyone on my list. The mall is missing things; there is generally no book store, card shop or candy store. Each mall is specialized and it seems that buying cards for people is passe as well as buying them a book. So if you want to get either of those things you have to go to specific stores. It would be so much easier if these stores were near the electronics stores then you could really truly get all of your shopping done at one time.

I think one reason that people haven’t completed all of their shopping is that they have to go to too many places. Malls have so many vacancies that you can’t really rely on your favorite store being there to sell you want you want. So instead you turn to an online retailer which makes it easier for you to buy things from the comfort of your own home and if you’re lucky you don’t even have to brave the elements when the delivery person brings it to your home.

The weather hasn’t put some people off from shopping. Waiting for money hasn’t put some people off from shopping. Having to go to several stores and still not finding what you want is the problem. The last minute shoppers who procrastinate usually don’t have a lot to buy and if they do, they just get something and go.

Retailers need to realize that the consumers go other places when their needs aren’t being met. Mine haven’t been met by a traditional mall in quite some time. Strip malls are easier to navigate, park near the store you want to patronize and go in, and get out. If I have a lot of shopping to do it is a lot easier to let your fingers do the walking because online stores are more competitive and things that I ordered Sunday and Monday of this week have already arrived for free.
