Money is a tool
By Daphne | November 1, 2007
Money is a tool. Are you enjoying life? If you are too focused on bills and expenses, you will not enjoy life. Yes you need money and yes you shouldn’t spend all of it but you shouldn’t save all of it either. If you save all of your money and do not buy an occasional treat then you will grow to have an unreasonable relationship with money.
The same thing will happen if you spend all of your money and do not make any effort to save something for the future.
Find that middle ground. If you suddenly gained a windfall would you put some away, give some away or spend it all? How you answer that question shows where your priorities are. Of course if you make more, you can spend more, but you can also save more and add more to your philanthropic opportunities.
I was reading CNN Money’s Millionaires in the Making section. None of the people profiled had a lot of debt or minimum wage jobs. Actually the one thing the people had in common was that they were spending below their means. It is tough to spend below your means if you are making minimum wage or do not earn a lot of money.
You are your best money manager, but in order to manage money you need to have some. If you are able to spend less on shelter, clothing and food then you may have something to save. If you are fortunate enough to have something to save then you will do well but there are people who do not money to save because of the cost of living where they do. Even if they tried to relocate, they wouldn’t have the money to move.
Despite what many financial experts say there are people in the country, state, city or town who do not have money to save, or are in debt and have a difficult time making ends meet. It’s about money. You do not need money to enjoy life, but you can use it wisely to reduce the headaches and heartaches.
Live well with what you have, for yourself not for others.
